European PMI

Irish May Manufacturing PMI 51.2
Up from 50.1 in April, third consecutive month above the 50.0 mark and highest reading in 14 months (a good result, this is the reason why the fiscal compact was approved).

Spain May Manufacturing PMI 42.0
Down from 43.5 in April and the lowest level since May 2009.(Really no surprise)

Switzerland May PMI 45.4
Down from 49.7 in April and weaker than Reuter’s median forecast of 48.5.(I was expecting a bad result based on my very weak retail activity in May; in fact Swiss retail sales were also extremely weak).

Italian May Mfg PMI 44.8
Slightly above the Reuters forecast of 43.5 and last month’s reading of 43.8.

French May Final Mfg PMI fell to 44.7.
Lowest in 3 years. From flash 44.4 and April’s final 46.9.

German May Final Mfg PMI 45.2
After final 46.2 in April and slightly above flash reading of 45.0

Eurozone May Final Mfg PMI 45.1
Lowest since June 2009, slightly above flash reading of 45.0 and down from April’s 45.9

UK May Mfg PMI fell sharply to 45.9
Well below the Reuters forecast of 49.8, the lowest since May 2009, and down from April’s revised 49.0.
